Overview
This page is to help people get started using the Cricut Machine. These docs are probably going to stay pretty sparse as Cricut is proprietary and creates content to serve the purpose of docs and troubleshooting material. But we want to lower the bar for labs-members to use the tools!

Materials
You can order cricut branded materials from the cricut website, or like Amazon/Joanns, etc.
- Vinyl
- Foil
- Cardstock
- Heat Transfers (iron on to fabric)
- Fabric
- Sticker paper
There are also things called “smart materials” which don’t require a mat.
Cricut Design Space (Software)
To format instructions for the cricut machine, you will need to use their proprietary software called Cricut Design Space.
It is available for windows and mac. It allows import of the following file formats:
- svg
- jpg
- png
- heic
- bmp
- dxf
- gif
How to
Basic instructions to make a thing that you have a file for:
Importing the image
Hamburger Menu > Canvas > Upload (left menu bar) > Browse for your file > Add to Canvas
Arranging it on the Canvas
Drag and drop.
If you don’t want the machine to optimize the cut placement Click Flatten (bottom right).
Click “Make It”

Importing
Black file on canvas - If you are importing a layered file and one of the layers doesn’t have a color assigned, cricut may auto assign black (which will likely hide the rest of your layer content). You can set white or transparent as that layer’s color and re-export/import the file. You can also select the layer individually (top right) and alter the color.
